DescriptionIn this after-school enrichment with Mr. Kroe, students in grades 4–6 will develop strong foundational skills using one of the most essential art tools: the pencil. Through guided lessons and creative challenges, students will learn how to observe, break complex subjects into simple shapes, and build confident drawings step-by-step.
Students will explore a variety of pencil techniques—including blending, hatching, cross-hatching, and creating smooth gradations—to make their artwork look more three-dimensional. Lessons will focus on shading, value, proportion, texture, and composition, helping students understand how light and shadow bring drawings to life.
Throughout the course, students will apply these skills to subjects such as still life, landscapes, animals, and imaginative scenes. They will also practice slowing down, refining details, and developing patience and craftsmanship in their work.
By the end of the class, students will have a collection of finished drawings that show growth in observation, technique, and artistic confidence—all built through the power of pencil.
