DescriptionIn this Open World afterschool program, students will research, propose, develop, and polish real-time 2D games they can be proud of and share with friends and family. Over the course of this program, students will explore techniques for the pre-production, production, and post-production processes of software and game development. These techniques include: following a development process, learning and using discipline-based best practices and skills, iterating effectively, formal testing, tracking progress, and integrating design, art, audio, and programming into a single, cohesive experience.
New and returning students are welcome in this class. New students will learn about the fundamentals of game development, and returning students will practice the skills they have already learned by designing a new type of game. This term's curriculum focuses on metroidvania games, which are action-adventure games focused on non-linear exploration (an example students might be familiar with is Hollow Knight).
