Industry Insights

Afterschool classes are prevalent in elementary schools. However, our data shows a steep decline in participation rates when students start 4th grade. On average, afterschool enrichment programs have a higher participation rate among students in K-3, with approximately 80% of students falling into this age group. A lower participation rate among fourth and fifth graders is typical, with only around 12% of fourth and 8% of fifth graders participating in these programs. Some of these demographic changes occur because children become more involved with off-campus sports leagues. However, here are a few activities that are popular with 4th and 5th graders.

Photography:
Create a hands-on photography class for students that focuses on using real cameras. Help students understand the basics of composition, lighting, and editing to develop their unique style.

Choir:
Whether students are experienced singers or just learning, invite them to prepare for a live performance at a local venue, like a coffee shop or sports bar. Families love the opportunity to enjoy dinner and watch their children perform.

Fencing:
Provide students with an opportunity to experience the thrill of this exciting sport by helping them develop the basic skills for footwork and bladework.

School Magazine:
Invite students to create a magazine covering school news, events, creative writing, and opinion pieces.

Anime Club:
Do your students love Anime? In this club, children can learn to draw manga and create their own anime universe.
