Description
Lessons and project activities will include drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, and mixed media art inspired by contemporary and traditional artists, and the world around us. The Kala teaching artist will work closely with students to create a space for creativity, self-expression, and collaboration.Kala Art Institute’s mission is to help artists sustain their creative work over time through its artist residency programs and to engage the community through exhibitions, public programs, and education. The heart of Kala’s mission as a vital, art-making hub in West Berkeley is supporting artists and engaging the community. Kala's youth arts and education programs are dedicated to nurturing the next generation of makers and creative problem solvers. Kala’s Artists-in-Schools (AIS) program connects professional artists with K-12 students and teachers throughout the East Bay. Kala Teaching Artists work in classrooms during the school day, in after-school programs, and in collaborative community settings. We are excited to offer an in-person, after-school visual art experience to TK/K-5th students at Malcolm X Elementary. Students will safely engage in skill-based instruction, and hands-on projects and activities, and explore a variety of visual art media, techniques, and concepts. Lessons and project activities will depend on age group and may include drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, and mixed media art inspired by contemporary and traditional artists, and our personal and community experiences. Kala teaching artists will work closely with students to create a space for creativity, self-expression, and collaboration. Kids who love making their ideas come to life will have a blast in this after-school art experience!
