DescriptionIn this 9-week after-school enrichment program, students will step into the world of herbalism and discover how plants have been used for centuries to support health and wellbeing.
Each week, learners will explore a new aspect of plant medicine through hands-on projects, outdoor exploration, and creative activities. Students will learn to identify common herbs, understand their traditional uses, and safely prepare simple remedies such as teas, salves, syrups, and tinctures.
Skills & Experiences:
1.) Learning to safely identify and harvest common medicinal plants
2.) Understanding the basic properties of herbs (soothing, calming, energizing, anti-microbial, etc)
3.) Making teas, salves, infused oils, and other herbal remedies
4.) Practicing safe and respectful harvesting and preparation methods
5.) Connecting with nature through observation and hands-on activities
Our instructor, Gretel Tisdale, is a recent graduate of Columbine School of Botanical Studies. She runs her own apothecary in town and taught our herbalism after school program last spring as well as our plants and potions summer camp.
