Description
Founded by a Stanford alumna and developed in collaboration with a Stanford math professor and a former coach of the Chinese International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) Team, Descartes Learning Club delivers a premium math and logic enrichment program in exceptionally small classes of just 3–6 students per instructor. With expertly trained instructors, individualized attention, and a carefully curated curriculum with world-class experts, we go beyond standard K–12 math to expand and deepen students’ knowledge—immersing them in abstract concepts, logical reasoning, and creative problem-solving. At the heart of our program is a deep commitment to a high-quality math learning experience—made possible through: 1) Exceptionally Low Student-to-Instructor Ratio, Enabling Highly Individualized Attention: 3–6 students in each learning pod guided by an expert instructor. Students are grouped by math proficiency level, ensuring individualized guidance and appropriately challenging content. 2) Expert Instructors: Selected from 50+ applicants per hire for strong math and teaching backgrounds, trained in evidence-based math pedagogy. See sample instructor bios: https://bit.ly/oak-knoll-instructor-bios 3) Engaging & Rigorous Curriculum: Lessons emphasize logical reasoning, abstract thinking, and a love of mathematics through rich puzzles, games, and storytelling. Our school-year core curriculum is Beast Academy (by Art of Problem Solving), complemented by curated Math Circle activities (e.g., Berkeley Math Circle, Stanford Math Circle), and math contest topics. - View our curriculum overview here: https://bit.ly/dlc-standard-curriculum - Explore sample lessons here: https://bit.ly/dlc-sample-lessons 4) High-Touch Communication: After each class, your child’s instructor will email a recap of the group’s lesson along with recommended homework to reinforce key skills and concepts covered that day. Founded by a Stanford alumna and developed in collaboration with a Stanford math professor and a former coach of the Chinese International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) Team, Descartes Learning Club delivers a premium math and logic enrichment program in exceptionally micro-sized classes of just 2–6 students. With expertly trained instructors and a carefully curated curriculum, we go beyond standard K–12 math to expand and deepen students’ knowledge—immersing them in abstract concepts, logical reasoning, and creative problem-solving. At the heart of our program is a deep commitment to a high-quality math learning experience—made possible through: 1) Exceptionally Small Class Size and Individualized Attention: Only 2–6 students per instructor (vs. 12 students at Russian School of Math, for example) grouped by proficiency, ensuring individualized guidance and appropriately challenging content. Thus, we offer premium-quality lessons that are significantly more productive and engaging than large-group lessons. 2) Expert Instructors: Selected from 50+ applicants per hire for strong math and teaching backgrounds, trained in evidence-based math pedagogy. 3) Engaging & Rigorous Curriculum: Lessons emphasize logical reasoning, abstract thinking, and a love of mathematics through rich puzzles, games, and storytelling.
