DescriptionThis course will meet the physical education requirement or can be taken as an elective. This course will teach students the various aspects of personal fitness, including proper nutrition and weight management. It will also focus on strength and agility training, cardiovascular fitness, and flexibility utilizing free weights, bands, body weight, and machines. Students will learn correct lifting and spotting techniques to promote safety. It will be a goal of the class to help students develop an understanding of lifetime fitness and the knowledge to develop a program of their own.
Students who take the summer course will be required to complete 60 hours to satisfy the semester requirement. Up to twenty (20) of those hours may be completed off-campus with the approval of the instructor. Students who attend summer workouts for Football or Volleyball may count those workout hours towards the 40 on-campus required hours. The gym will be open Monday - Thursday from 11:00 - 12:30 (May 27th - June 19th and July 7 - August 5th) for wellness students to complete their on-campus hours. Students who take the summer wellness course are required to attend an on-campus orientation on the last day of semester exams at 10:45 AM.
