Description
Focused on developing self-confidence and building teamwork and leadership skills, our Leadership through DanceTM Program is designed exclusively for students to learn about themselves, while experiencing different styles of dance (including hip hop, jazz, contemporary and more). Students will have the opportunity to choreograph and perform on stage at a special showcase for family & friends. As our teens prepare to embark on new experiences in high schools through dance teams or other competitive teams, our environment will allow them to continue their self-expression and creativity through their own choreography, in a judgement-free zone, to be performed for family and friends at the end of each season. With a proper dance studio (at the College of San Mateo), we will also have an increased focus on helping our students gain more dance techniques. Additional leadership opportunities or performance opportunities may be available to this class. ------ Special End-of-Season Showcase: Our students will be co-producing and performing in a special performance with our instructors for their families at the end of the program, currently planned for Sunday, May 18, 2025. The actual time of tech and rehearsal is TBD, so please reserve 2pm-9pm for now. Note that this is subject to change, as our programs are growing this year, and we may need to restructure how & when we will do Tech Rehearsal. Updated information will be provided once we narrow down these details. Note that we do not charge an upfront performance fee. However, additional performance-related costs such as costumes & team t-shirts will be handled separately as we get closer to the show. Tickets will also be sold to cover the cost of the Theater. Specific Program Details for our TEEN Program at CSM: * Our TEEN program at CSM is different than the programs we bring to middle schools, as there will be a stronger focus on helping teens gain more advanced dance technique. The class will run longer (3 hours) in a real dance studio with mirrors and dance floors, so proper dance shoes and attire will be required, * Or program runs on Sundays from 2-5pm, starting 1/12-5/18, with our show on Sunday, 5/18 being the official last day of the program. * No class 2/16 for start of Mid-Winter Break * No class 2/23 for end of Mid-Winter Break * No class 4/6 for start of Spring Break * No class 4/13 for end of Spring Break * Show Day = 5/18 (no post-show class) * Note that the Sunday AFTER the show (5/25) lands on Memorial Day Weekend, so we will NOT be planning a class after the show. However, I will invite our CSM students to join any of our other class celebrations during the week of 5/19. Learn more at www.mariposadance.com/leadership-teens

About the provider
At Mariposa Dance, we offer programs that focus on developing self-confidence, creativity and youth leadership through music and movement. Look for our Zumba® Kids classes (grades K-3), Generation Pound® classes (grades K-8) and our flagship program, Leadership through Dance™ (grades 4-8) where kids with minimal dance experience have an opportunity to produce a dance showcase together as a team, learning invaluable leadership and teamwork lessons along the way.
