SPANISH - Sketching - Art is Fun with Francisco!

DescriptionThis art class is intended for students to tap into the creators we all embody and start thinking visually and creatively. Through visual images, more information can be expressed or perceived compared to letters and writing alone; ancient civilizations like Egypt (Kemet) were aware of this. For this reason, it is crucial to commence a visual arts education in the early years of schooling and onward. The class will introduce students to various art form materials, concepts, and approaches. We will present art and artists in "snack" sized bits so that any elementary school student can grasp them. The class starts with the basics of sketching, then shapes, followed by the fundamental representation of light so that the students may establish a "toolset" that they can draw from to express their imagination and creativity. The student will also learn art appreciation and respect through a simulated or digital "Gallery exhibition." Ultimately, the class aims to instill an enriching appreciation for the visual arts and encourage students to pursue a career path in the arts.

ENGLISH - Ukulele - “String Theory”

DescriptionUkulele "String Theory" is a fun and stress-free approach to musicianship for elementary school students. Given the popularity and widespread adoption of chordophones across cultures, space, and time, this class aims to introduce the Ukulele and its execution and instill a love for music-making. Students will learn the basic concept of how most stringed instruments work to produce the notes and music our ears enjoy so much. Students will review all of the parts on the Ukulele to understand their respective functions in creating sound; the introduction of proper technique and execution will follow. Moreover, students will learn the basics of making music: understanding the difference between rhythm and melody, tuning the Ukulele, instrumental breaks, and when to accompany with singing. A crucial component will be musical games and activities; this class component is still being researched and developed. The idea is to draw from successful music education curriculums, like Orph training or similar, to make learning fun and increase material retention by the students. Ultimately, students will learn to play the Ukulele and express basic ideas in musical terms while instilling music appreciation.
