Joyful Literacy, LLC“Unlock the joy of learning!”I support K-12 and college students in developing literacy and academic practices, skills, and mindsets—through 1:1 tutoring, essay support, and workshops. I want everyone to feel empowered to read, write, and speak about the worlds they live in and the worlds they want to build. All students can and should engage with high quality texts and think deeply about the world, in a variety of genres and modalities. I have significant experience working with students with a variety of strengths and struggles, including students with disabilities and those for whom English is not their first language. DescriptionAre you ready to become a naturalist, do your own investigations in nature, and share your discoveries with the world?! Then you must be a Wild Writer! As members of this workshop, students will take on the role of a naturalist to * Explore the nature area using their senses (rain** or shine!) * Record their observations and wonderings in nature journals * Investigate their questions * Develop their authorial voice by writing about their discoveries and why they matter. * Revise one piece of writing to submit to a Walnut Heights Nature Journal (every student gets a copy) * Practice literacy and science skills * Get dirty (to their own comfort level) Students will be encouraged to use all the languages available to them in their nature journals, as this supports language development and learning.
