by Latonia Baker
DescriptionThis class packs a whole ton of fun in this robotic sphere. More than just a robot toy for kids, this programmable robot will help you learn how to code while completing fun and engaging activities! Students will engage in weekly challenges that use critical thinking, creativity, and learned coding skills. Session 1: Intro to Robots and Sphero Robotics Investigate Sphero Robot and learn how it works through play. Using the downloaded Sphero Edu App on provided tablets learn to aim, customize color, drive and control the speed of the robot. End by directing robot on linear pool noodle racetrack. Session 2: Control Sphero with Drive and Team Mazes Using the Sphero App drive mechanism learn to control the robot through simple mazes. Then create obstacle course as a group. Session 3: Control Sphero with Draw – Shapes and Art Creation Using the Sphero App draw mechanism learn to control the robot through creating simple shapes. Create art with the Sphero bot using the drive and draw app components. Session 4: Create a Sphero Chariot and Race It Create a Sphero vehicle with cardboard and crafting materials. Race chariots using the drive and draw app components. Session 5: Battle of the Bots Modifying the Sphero Chariots, create a battle machine for group battle of the bots games. Begin coding lessons with hour of code exercises. Session 6: Coding Basics – Shapes and Mazes Continue coding exercises and learn simple drag and drop coding to control the Sphero – through simple mazes, and racetracks. Session 7: Maze Competition Through Drive, Draw, and Coding Using all the skills learned thus far, participate in as teams navigating through simple mazes. Everyone will earn points and prizes. Session 8: Build a Bridge Using popsicle sticks and tape, as a team create ramps and bridges to direct the Sphero bot through the drive and coding mechanisms.
