Arbor Heights Musical

DescriptionThe Arbor Heights school musical is BACK! For the first time since COVID, students have the opportunity to perform a full-length one act musical, directed by Jessie Kuehm of Emerald City Drama Club. Students can choose whether they'd like to audition for primary or secondary roles with singing and speaking parts, or be in the stage crew and use their crafting and engineering skills to support the project. Priority for solos and larger speaking parts will go to 5th graders, then 4th, and finally 3rd. EVERYONE who wants an onstage role will get one! Just remember: no matter how many lines or solos you have, it takes a strong team to put on a play. And we are all here to support one another and put on a fantastic show!

Page to Play: Fables

DescriptionStorybook adventures come to life in our Page to Play class! Students will read and discuss a selection of classic and modern fables, using them as examples to learn about narrative structure and other storytelling elements like setting, tone, moral, and character development. Together, the class will choose one of these stories to turn into a live performance! Students will stage their favorite fable, craft props and costumes, and present their masterpiece to family and friends on the final day of class.

Discovery Theatre

DescriptionFree play and spontaneous creation are key to nurturing a child’s blossoming imagination. When given the opportunity, children create their own worlds, characters, stories, and endless possibilities. Campers will engage in active collaboration with one another to create characters, props, costumes, and set pieces. The instructor will help them develop a script for a short play based on their ideas, and players will perform their masterpiece for an audience of friends and family at the end of the week. Activities for the week will also include acting exercises, theatre games, and show-and-tell time to show off and celebrate the unique range of interests and talents of our campers!

Bite-Sized Broadway

DescriptionDo you have a tiny Broadway star on your hands who’s ready to be the next Billy Elliott or Annie? Then this camp is for you. Campers will spend the week rehearsing iconic musical numbers from beloved Broadway musicals like Matilda, School of Rock, and various Disney favorites. We will also watch kid-friendly performances from iconic Broadway performers, learn about proper warm-up techniques, and play theatre games that help young performers break out of their shell. The performance at the end of the week will be interactive; audience members are encouraged to sing along and support our young stars as they share their talents and enthusiasm for musical theatre with us.

DescriptionIf the Stage is calling your name...put them on hold for a moment–you need to hear about this camp. It’s your time to shine! Campers will spend the week rehearsing iconic musical numbers from beloved Broadway shows, building confidence and stage presence as they work together to craft a show-stopping performance for family and friends at the end of the week. We’ll also dive into the rich history of Broadway, learning about legendary shows, performers, and behind-the-scenes magic that make the theatre world so special. Whether you’ve just been bitten by the Broadway bug, or you’ve been doing ‘jazz hands’ since you were a baby, this camp offers a creative and supportive environment where kids of all skill levels are empowered to take risks, make big choices, and step outside of their comfort zones.

DescriptionThis week, campers will learn about the building blocks of music: rhythm, melody, dynamics, tempo, oh my! Campers will engage in hands-on activities and interactive exercises that help them build foundational knowledge of music theory. They will also have the opportunity to explore a variety of instruments with daily jam sessions and discussions about how different types of instruments make their sounds. Together, we will answer questions like: What do all those crazy symbols on a piece of sheet music mean? What makes a song sound happy or sad? What are the instruments that make up an orchestra, and how do they decide where to sit? If you’re interested in learning the answers to these questions (and more), this camp is for you!
