Slowfire“Slowfire LLC, art education for all”Slowfire LLC in Oak Park is a woman-owned small business that specializes in art education with a focus on foundational skills and art FUNdamentals. We stay dedicated to small class sizes and low student to teacher ratios. We strive hard to create community and a safe, supportive learning environment for all. We are an LGBTQIA+ space and we support neurodivergent learners. Our artist-teachers are skilled at teaching painting, drawing, ceramics, fibers, and digital fabrication. Founder Noelle Allen is a tenured professor and chair of the art department at Dominican University in River Forest.

Be a Jewelry Entrepreneur

You are welcome to insert a webpage or youtube video link. * Join Slowfire teacher Ms. Alice for an exciting and hands-on art class where students will explore the art of jewelry making—with a creative and entrepreneurial twist! In Be a Jewelry Entrepreneur, students will learn a wide variety of jewelry-making techniques while also gaining insights into how artists design, price, and sell their own work. This class encourages both craftsmanship and creativity as students learn to make one-of-a-kind wearable pieces. Projects may include: 💎 Beaded jewelry 🧵 Wire wrapping 🔗 Polymer clay charms and pendants 🖌 Ceramic jewelry (glazed and kiln-fired) 🪙 Metal stamping (personalized designs using letter and shape stamps on silver blanks) Students will also get an introduction to branding, display techniques, and simple pricing concepts, encouraging them to think like young entrepreneurs and take pride in their creations. No experience is necessary—just a love for art, design, and sparkle!

Ceramics in Spanish

DescriptionThis class invites young artists in grades K–2 to explore the magical world of clay with Slowfire teacher Ms. Fernanda! Taught entirely in Spanish (at a level perfect for early learners), students will discover the foundational techniques of ceramic handbuilding while playing with form, texture, and imagination. They’ll create both functional and whimsical projects—like animal figurines, treasure boxes, story tiles, or colorful cups—using water-based clay. After building, students will decorate their pieces with a rainbow of underglaze colors and finish with a shiny glass coat. Because clay takes time to dry and fire in the kiln, projects will be ready to take home at the end of the session. All materials, kiln firings, and outside labor are included in the cost of the class.
