DescriptionTaught by Irving TA Douglas Chrystall PLEASE NOTE: Cards will be provided for use in the class, but not to keep. Please do not have your students bring their own cards. Collect, Build, and Battle with the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) Dive into the world of Pokémon as you learn how to collect, build, and battle with the Pokémon Trading Card Game(TCG)! In this exciting and hands-on after-school club, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the game while developing strategic thinking, problem-solving, and sportsmanship. Over the course of the program, students will: Learn the Official Tournament Rules: Students will be introduced to the official Pokémon TCG rules as used in competitive play. They'll understand how to set up a game, take turns, use Energy cards, evolve Pokémon, and employ Trainer cards. By following these rules, students will be prepared to participate in official Pokémon events or tournaments in the future. Build Competitive Decks: Building a deck is an essential skill in the Pokémon TCG. Students will learn how to craft their competitive 60-card decks, selecting Pokémon that complement each other’s strengths, using the right mix of Energy cards to power up attacks, and incorporating Trainer cards for extra strategy. They will discover how to balance their decks to make them powerful and efficient, and how to adapt their strategies based on different battle situations. Battle Against Each Other: Once their decks are ready, students will put their knowledge to the test by battling against each other. They will learn how to make strategic decisions, manage their Energy, and use Pokémon abilities and moves effectively to knock out their opponent’s Pokémon. Friendly, informal mini-tournaments will be organized throughout the course, so students can challenge each other in one-on-one matches and put their strategies into practice. Throughout the club, emphasis will be placed on fun, fair play, and good sportsmanship. Whether you’re a beginner just starting to build your deck or a seasoned player looking to improve, this class will provide a supportive environment for everyone to learn, grow, and enjoy the game. By the end of the program, students will not only have mastered the basics of the Pokémon TCG but also learned how to think critically, solve problems, and work as part of a team. The skills gained will help them both in the game and in other areas of life. Classes are Fridays: January 31- May 2 (No class Feb. 14, March 28, and April 18)
