Hello! I am so happy to see you here on Homeroom's website checking out how to further your child's education.
Children of all ages are like sponges, eager to learn!
About me:
I have taught online and in the classroom for over 20 years. I have a Masters in Education from Niagara Univsersity (NY State) and have had the privilege of teaching all ages- from 6 months (American Sign Language) to students in college (Physics, Statistics, and more!). I have two grown children, now ages 23 and 27 who have families of their own, making me a grandma! Yahoo!
While my daughter attended public school and I taught in the public education system, I homeschooled my son since that fit his needs best. I also teach classes online to students across the globe, including English to children in China and Japan. This gives me a very strong foundation in understanding not only the uniqueness online courses offer, but an overall understanding of how every child learns differently.
First sessions with your child may feel a bit bumpy as I get to know them and their personality. Have trust that classes going forward will be more smooth! For younger children, I do prefer that parents sit with them, at least for the first few classes to help guide them with our routine. Most already know how to use the mouse (better than the adults, teehee!) but just in case they don't, having an assistant will be great!
I believe that education is a lifelong family journey. We guide each other, and we assist each other. While there isn't mandatory homework, practice, practice, and practice will make a difference in your child's success!
Throughout the course, I am always available to answer questions, offer support and guidance if you have any particular concerns. I also always send weekly reinforcement activities you can do at home in the form of PDF files or hands on activities with every day home items.
Again, thank you for checking out my profile and I sure hope to see your child in my classroom! Stay happy and healthy!
Miss JoAnn
